Bachelor in Social Work (2001), Master (2007) and PhD (2015) in Gerontology from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar of the University of Porto is a Professor at the Higher Institute of Social Work of Porto since 2001 where teaches and coordinates Social Gerontology Degrees in Bachelor and Master. She is Integrated Researcher at the Lusíada Research Center on Social Work and Social Intervention.
Her research interests focus on the development of intervention programs that promote quality of life and successful aging, whether in local communities, in social facilities or in old people's house. It also focuses on the study of experiences of transition to retirement that could contribute to the social integration and usefulness of older people.
Recently, she coordinates the Project “Porto.Importa-se” that aims to identify the problems of isolated elderly people in the neighbourhoods of social housing in Oporto and the articulation with the social responses of the territory.
